SLEEP
May 10, 2021If you want to see passionate arguments enfold on social media, just mutter these two words “sleep train”. . We truly feel that this topic has been widely manipulated to push one’s own beliefs, values, and incentives about sleep. Sleep train, don’t sleep train, whatever you choose to do. There is no one right way. We want you to find what feels like a good fit for you, your child, and your family. HOWEVER, with this being said we always want to discuss what safe sleep is. We are here to support you and your family. We want you to know the facts, what is shown to be safe.
The Guidelines on safe sleep from the American Academy of Pediatrics are as follows:
Lie on back to sleep
Room share without bed-sharing
Avoid illicit drugs and alcohol
Avoid commercial devices that are inconsistent with safe sleep recommendations
Avoid overheating
Use a firm sleep surface
We always advocate for safe sleep. Of course we want mamas to be educated on the fact that there are risks associated with bed-sharing (and omg was there ever a whole lot of CONTROVERSY on a post that we put out recently). However at the end of the day, we want moms to be supported. No one knowingly puts their baby in danger, but there are desperate moms with sleep deprivation. We want moms to be empowered and knowledgeable when it comes to their babies sleep.
